Winter Final Project

The Birth of Venus 3D Interpretation

Sandro Botticelli was born 1445 in Florence, Italy. His father trained him in goldsmithing, but he preferred painting and was put under the mentorship of the Florentine master Filippo Lippi. With Lippi he learned panel painting and fresco. His most famous painting is The Birth Of Venus, which I chose for my final project. This painting interested me because of the dreamlike ocean and sky in the background and the way the colors give everything a light look. I constructed a tray in the shape of a shell to resemble the one Venus floats in on, and used underglaze to paint my interpretation of her onto it. If I did this again I would try something with more depth.
